Yes, this is a common setup. The Safe-Fly + echo package can receive control instructions from the Mini and get altitude from the Mini. The echo will read the squawk code through its Transponder Monitor power circuits when the transponder replies to a radar interrogation. The control interface uses a serial port and the ADS-B IN traffic and weather uses a serial port. The Safe-Fly also has two low-speed serial ports on it if you need to move something.
