Re: For Jeff: Percent Power Calculation
For me, this has been mostly an exercise in understanding power in normally aspirated engines. My only practical application applies to flights at and above 8000 density altitude. Since I had been using lean of peak operation, even at quite high altitudes, I wondered how much power and speed I was g...

Re: For Jeff: Percent Power Calculation
Thanks for confirming that. I had noticed whether leaned to best power or anywhere lean of peak, the display of percent power does not change. Conclusion: If not leaned to best power mixture, I should ignore the display of percent power and SFC since those numbers can't be reasonably accurate.

For Jeff: Percent Power Calculation
Question for Jeff: How do you calculate % power when lean of peak? What I think I know: The numbers we enter to our EFIS for 55% and 75% power, as well as the altitude numbers, are based on engine manufacturer power curves that assume leaning to "best power". I'm sure you use these numbers...

%Power Lean of Peak
Just learned that the %Power calculation doesn't work when leaning from the lean side of peak. This surprised me so I tried it today. Sure enough, once one is on the lean side, %power doesn't change, when 10F LOP, or 60F LOP. I'm sure GRT has lots of customers that fly this way. Also sure that Jeff ...

PFD engine bar graphs
Can't find where to change bar graph engine parameters displayed under some PFD pages. They aren't the same as the ones displayed on the engine page.

Testing Oil Temp Sensor
My Oil Temp reads 15 degrees above OAT when in my hangar with plenty of time to stabilize. That doesn't bother me if it reads oil temp correctly in flight, but I'd like to check it. 1. Can I just remove it from the engine and place the probe in boiling water and compare the EIS reading to a thermome...

Autopilot Modes Bug?
HX, latest EFIS software, Autopilot Modes: The 3 autopilot modes available from soft keys are Auto, Vertical speed, or Airspeed. Selecting vertical speed or airspeed work fine. The Auto mode has me confused. The book says this commands climb or descent at the preset airspeed or vertical speed, as se...

Traffic Popup Box
Still an issue for me in the 6.5" HX: When near another airplane, the traffic popup box appears, as it should. However, it hides the airspeed tape. Why care? I use the selection, "Convert Vne to TAS". When flying with higher true airspeeds, the yellow 'caution range' becomes quite sma...
