RNAV glide slope gain

Post by ski38off »

Does the glideslope gain apply just to an ILS or to an RNAV also? When on an RNAV, the vertical AP is very lazy and overshoots. I have the gain at 400%.

GPSV mode uses the Glideslope Gain and tracks the same way. 400% is very high. Does it work fine for an ILS but not RNAV? Are you seeing this everywhere or one particular approach?

I believe it behaves the same for both an ILS and GPSV, but I will go out in the next couple days and try both. Typically at glide slope intercept, the plane takes maybe 5 seconds to start the pitch down, by this time I am high and the roller coaster ride begins.

If the approach mode was already armed then it should immediately start pitching down when you reach the intercept point (zero deviation). Turn on the flight director (FLT DIR) to see what the EFIS wants to do. The flight director and autopilot are driven by the same data.
