Have I screwed up my EIS configuration?

Post by BillinDurham »

I’ve been using a model 6000 in my RV10 for over 10 years. I recently installed 2 Surefly SIMs and a Tach2 unit. Everything was working properly except I was not getting a tachometer reading (0 rpms). The problem appeared to be the need to change TACHSEN from “L” (low) to “H” (high).

I attempted to do this but may have pressed the wrong keys at the wrong time due to working on the instrument in an awkward position. When I power on the unit I get this:

From here I cannot seem to get to ‘Set Configuration’ by pressing the 2 keys. More important, none of the engine data appears on my HX or HXr displays so I’m completely grounded.

I’ve also managed to generate these displays which are meaningless to me and/or seem to be an error condition:

I’ve put a call into the support line and will be calling again tomorrow. Please Help!

Those are the settings and limit pages. There are a bunch of "Disable Pg#" settings, so you may not be able to tell them apart. Keep pushing the right button (Next) to go to the next setting, or hold down the right button to cycle through all settings and exit the settings menu.

"Cont" is the LCD contrast setting, part of the Set Limits function.

Check Entries means you shut off the EIS while you were in the settings/limits, or the settings didn't pass an integrity check, and one or more of them may need review. To exit the settings or limits you have to hold down the right button until it cycles through all settings back to a normal operating page.

Okay then! Thanks for the quick response.

I ‘nexted’ out of it until I got a normal display. Did the Config set and confirmed that Techsen = H. My GRT HX panel lit up properly with all engine input displayed and after startup, the tach worked. Success. Test flight to follow since I’m still afraid I may have changed a setting or two inadvertantly in my blind button pushing.

As many have, my EIS is installed out of sight; under the panel facing down with a swing out feature. My options for working the screen is either standing on my head looking up, swinging the panel and working it sideways, or putting a mirror on the floor and working it with all the text reading in reverse. None are comfortable. And given that my initial setup was some 14 years ago, it’s never a familiar process.

Anyway, THANKS!
