Westech Fuel Sender Setup

Post by bd4c »

Is there anything in particular in the EIS or EFIS I need to do in order for the fuel sender to work / be interpreted correctly?

Sender: Westech; spec link below.

You have to set the scale factor and offset like with any other fuel sender.

If it is the kind that outputs 0-5 volts, then this is easy. You can wire the output directly to the aux/analog input (no resistors or excitation voltage). Set the scale factor (SF) to half the capacity of the tank (or the calibrated capacity of the sender) for integer mode (no tenths). If you want to display tenths, then set the scale factor to half the capacity times ten and use decimal mode. Set the offset (OFF) to zero. If it reads the wrong direction, flip the sensing mode in the EIS/EFIS between forward (+) and reverse (-).

If it is the kind that varies by 240-30 ohm, then you can connect it and calibrate it the same as a float sender. If the full/empty resistance is precalibrated, you may be able to compute the scale factor and offset values without moving fuel around.

Set the scale factor (SF) to half the capacity of the tank (or the calibrated capacity of the sender)
So, for a tank with a capacity of 26 gallons, the scale factor would be entered as "13"; correct?

Yes. This would cause the EIS/EFIS to compute 26 gallons (no decimal point) at 5V.
